Who we are, what we are and why

Sometimes, when adults look at their children, they recall the happy moments of their own childhood. And they think, “What could I give my child that I experienced myself as a child—something that would let them feel that same wonderful feeling too…?” We reminisced and reminisced, and remembered how we used to rush joyfully to the mailbox—some for “Murzilka,” others for “Tramvay”... And so, around Christmas, the idea for the magazine “Cat in a Bag” was born...
Yes, I want to anticipate your thought—there are plenty of magazines out there, and very good ones at that. So why another one? The secret of our magazine is that it was created not only for children—it’s just a little bit for us adults, too, those of us who still carry within us a sense of childhood, a zest for life, and a desire to learn new things, to read together with our children, and to be one big creative space. For those who read, learn, and realize that family is when we’re almost always together…
“Cat in a Bag” is an illustrated literary and educational magazine. It features not only fine prose and poetry by well-known, lesser-known, and sometimes even famous figures. It features research laboratories of biologists, chemists, and physicists; offices of mathematicians and Russian language specialists; guided tours of museums around the world with art historians; concert halls with music experts; historical excursions to different countries and eras; and ethnographic and cultural studies. A page about careers featuring real people from various fields who love their work. There will also be a page for budding chefs and all kinds of crafts and science experiments, for both boys and girls. And reviews of books worth reading.
Through this diverse reading material, we hope to help our children not only learn about the world but also to love the Russian language, which, in a foreign environment, naturally ceases to be a source of a strong cultural foundation for them.
